Welford Gastro-Pub
Highly Commended
Following its success in the Food and Drink Awards last year, The
Bell Inn at Welford on Avon has again been recognised by the catering
industry for its commitment to the use and promotion of locally
produced food and drink. The consistently busy gastro-pub was Highly
Commended in the Best Pub/Inn/Wine Bar category of the Coventry
and Warwickshire Food and Drink Awards 2003, which were held recently
in North Warwickshire.
In his opening address, Master of Ceremonies, Tom Collins from
Henley College in Coventry, paid homage to the high standard
set by Colin and Teresa Ombler and the staff of The Bell Inn
last year.
Sir William Lawrence, Judge and Chairman of the Visit Heart
of England Tourist Board, also commented that he was particularly
impressed by Trainee Assistant Manager, Amy Harper-Robert’s
knowledge of the local suppliers used at The Bell - testament
to the high standards not only of the food and wine at The
Bell, but
also of the customer service you can expect when eating there.
Head Chef, Mike Holden, uses locally sourced produce to create
a menu combining quality pub food with more innovative Modern
British and fusion cuisine, ensuring both regular and first
time visitors
to The Bell Inn enjoy a wide choice of excellent food. This
is complemented by an extensive list of wines and real ales,
including
the award winning wines from the nearby Heart of England vineyard,
just a mile down the road.
The Bell Inn also represented Coventry & Warwickshire in
the regional final of the Visit Heart of England Tourist Board
Food
and Drink Awards, held at the Birmingham College of Food on
Tuesday 7th October 2003.
