October 2011

The Bell Inn, Welford on Avon is voted Warwickshire’s Best
by The Good Pub Guide

The team at The Bell Inn Welford on Avon are celebrating having been voted the Best Dining Pub in Warwickshire; this is the third time in six years, with the first being in 2006.

Licensee Colin Ombler, said, “we are over the moon to be recognised as the best Dining Pub in Warwickshire for 2012 especially when you consider how many good pub businesses we have in the Warwickshire area, with perhaps a greater concentration than in most regions”. Key to the success at the Bell is their long standing commitment in the use of quality local produce, as well as the dedication commitment and hard work of every member of the team, from the waiting team members to the chefs, with a very low turnover creating a real family team spirit.

This award is especially rewarding, as it is not one of the industry competitions you win by entering. Entry into the guide is initially down to recommendations from people who use the guide; the nominations are then inspected anonymously by the editorial team.

A similar process takes place with the awards; of the 5000 pubs in the guide, only those that have inspired a high volume of positive customer reports to the guide are considered for the awards these are again anonymously visited by the editorial team before the final decision is made.

Fiona Stapely, editor of The Good Pub Guide said; “Above all what makes a good pub is its atmosphere, you should be able to feel at home there, and feel not just that you’re your glad to be there but that the staff and hosts are glad for you to be there also. A good landlord or landlady makes a huge difference here – they can make or break a pub”.

September 2010
